Fantastic Creatures of Patricia Piccinini

This photo went viral in 2003 with a portrayal of a strange female dog/pig/human creature with her litter of babies. She was taken into custody from an unknown bio lab notorious for genetic experiments.

The female with her human gentle eyes gave the impression she was a pet of some kind. Who is this? Was it a human? Was it a photoshop?

She is a creation of Patricia Piccinini, an Australian artist who baffled the art world with this eerily endearing sculpture. They have been sometimes photoshopped lying on a bed or a braided rug. She and the cubs together are titled “The Young Family.”

Now world famous for setting a standard of hypo-realistic art, Patricia Piccinini raised the moral question of far can we go with genetic research. How far should we go??

It would be impossible to list all her work. These sculptures are the ones paraded around the social media as “secret genetic experiments.”

“Leather Landscape” 2003. This was part of a larger display but would not fit correctly.

These came out in 2004.They are titled “Nature’s Helper” and “Surrogate.” The first was a vicious little creation meant to attack poachers. The second was meant to save the wombat species by being a surrogate to wombat young.

“Long Awaited” 2008. Boy with manatee hybrid.

In 2009 was “The Offering.” Viewers stated it could be a baby Dogman.

“The Comforter” 2010- Little girl with her pet.

“Welcome Guest” 2011 Looks like a happy greeting despite the huge claws on the creature.

“The Eulogy”2011 The blobfish does exist and despite an internet rumor the model is not David Tennant.

“The Coup” 2012 Another child with a beloved pet.

This one in 2016 titled “Graham” thought to be an atrophied view of future humanity but it really proposed how a human would have to adapt to survive a car crash.
